Melissa Cates

Melissa Cates is a law clerk in the Advocacy Group of Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office.

Melissa works in the area of health law and medical defence, including supporting lawyers acting as counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association and its member physicians.

Melissa previously worked as a legal assistant with the firm’s Insurance Defence Group, assisting with high volume litigation practice, including several cases of a high profile and sensitive in nature. She has extensive knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Rules of the Small Claims Court and is experienced with assisting in trial preparation, serving and filing pleadings, and compiling various types of legal briefs.
