Gowling WLG acted as legal counsel to Infrastructure Ontario and Mackenzie Health with respect to the CDN$1.3-billion Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital project, which reached financial close on October 21, 2016.

In August 2016, Plenary Health was awarded the fixed-price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new hospital. This is the first hospital to be built in the city of Vaughan, and the first new hospital to be built in York Region in the last 30 years. The contract's $1.3-billion value reflects the payments made during construction, the substantial completion payment and the monthly service payments before inflation adjustments.

Construction has begun and is expected to be completed in 2020. In addition to the project's focus on sustainable design and construction, it will be the first hospital in Canada to adopt fully integrated "smart" technology, which features systems and medical devices that can speak directly to one another to maximize information exchange.

Gowling WLG advised Infrastructure Ontario and Mackenzie Health with a team led by Merie-Anne Beavis that included Lindsay Wong, Katie Higgins, Leslie Blumer and Syll Kushner.
