Kirsten McCann

Kirsten McCann is a litigation associate in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office and is a member of the Environmental Practice Group.
Kirsten has a growing civil litigation practice, representing and advising public and private clients on a wide range of matters. Her focus includes public law, such as constitutional, administrative, environmental, and Indigenous law matters, as well as commercial litigation.
She has experience advocating for clients in administrative and civil proceedings, applications for judicial review, and appeals. She has appeared in front of various courts and tribunals, including all levels of the British Columbia, the Federal Court of Canada, the Alberta Court of Justice, the British Columbia Forest Appeals Commission, and the Alberta Utilities Commission. Kirsten is also a member of The Advocates' Society Young Advocates' Standing Committee (2026–2027).
Kirsten joined the firm as a summer student in 2022 and completed her articles in 2024. She obtained her JD from the University of Ottawa Faculty of English Common Law, graduating on the Dean's Honours List with a specialization in public law. During law school, Kirsten was active in Ottawa's legal community. She worked as a legislative intern at the Senate of Canada for Senator Yvonne Boyer and as the coordinator for the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund's (LEAF) "Only Yes Means Yes" program in Ottawa, providing workshops to high school students on consent law and legal and non-legal options for survivors of sexual assault. Kirsten has also studied international law at the University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands and European politics at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. Before law school, Kirsten obtained an honours specialization degree in political science from Western University.
