Lindsay Hammond

Lindsay Hammond is a principal associate in the contentious construction team, qualifying in 2011 having spent a year of her training contract in the construction team dealing with both contentious and non-contentious work.

Lindsay has developed wide-ranging legal experience working with developers, contractors and sub-contractors, public bodies, purchasers and tenants in both contentious and non-contentious matters. Lindsay has particular expertise in dispute avoidance and resolution and has experience of adjudication, mediation and litigation in the context of a wide variety of construction and engineering disputes. She also provides ongoing advice on live contracts advising employers and contractors with regards to the day to day aspects of contract administration, especially under JCT forms of contracts. Lindsay enjoys working alongside clients and has recently completed two client secondments - a six-month secondment at a major contractor and a 4 ½ month secondment at one of the world's largest providers of technical professional and construction services.

Lindsay has completed a two-year MSc in Construction Law & Practice at the University of Salford.

Examples of Lindsay's work include:

  • Representing a contractor on a multi-million pound piece of litigation encompassing common aspects of a final account dispute, including payment for variations, loss and expense and extension of time.
  • Representing a main contractor in a multi-party litigation case in the London Technology and Construction Court. This was a technically complex defects case and due to the thorough preparation of the expert and witness evidence a settlement on the first day of trial was achieved.
  • Advising an SPV on a private finance initiative project in an adjudication disputing the validity of deductions under a project agreement.
  • Advising a major house builder on a variety of disputes.
  • Representing a contractor in a series of four adjudications arising out of the renovation and extension of an office block in London into high-end residential apartments. Following non-compliance with the adjudicator's Decision we successfully obtained enforcement of the Decision and an award of indemnity costs.
