Patrick Laycock

Patrick Laycock is a partner, registered Canadian and US patent agent, and registered Canadian trademark agent based in Gowling WLG's Calgary office. His intellectual property practice focuses on patents, particularly in the fields of electronics, computer and software technologies, optics, and oil and gas technologies including downhole tools. Patrick assists clients of all sizes, from multinational high-tech companies to innovative startups.

Patrick enjoys diving into new technologies and helping his clients achieve their business goals by securing their rights in those technologies. He helps clients from diverse industries develop patent portfolios that are strategically aligned with their business objectives, and he guides clients through the complexities of patent validity, infringement and freedom to operate issues. His proficiency in both Canadian and US patent law and a broad range of technologies allows him to deliver tailored solutions that meet his clients' specific needs.

Patrick also advises clients with regards to industrial design prosecution, trade secrets, intellectual property transactions, confidentiality issues, and other aspects of intellectual property.

Outside of his practice, Patrick enjoys camping, hiking and wildlife photography. He also has a passion for playing the guitar, finding creative expression in both his professional and personal life.
